This hitch has a 2" receiver for a ball mount, bike rack, or any 2" hitch accessory. We designed this hitch to be as low profile and tucked away as possible. Once installed it resides nearly flush with the bumper to eliminate crushed shin bones. Ouch, those hurt! A simple design with clean lines make this hitch easy to use and easy on the eyes. The price isn't all that bad either. This simple bolt-on product includes complete hardware and instructions for both 2WD and 4WD Vanagons.

Fits: All 1983.5-91 Watercooled Vanagon. Does not fit Aircooled, Diesel, or engine conversions.

The 2" receiver is built from industry standard 2" hitch tubing which has a slightly curved inside radius. Older bike racks and hitch accessories sometimes have a more square outer profile that will not fit this hitch at all, or without relieving the interference with a grinder.

NOTE: The GoWesty trailer hitches we offer for Bus and Vanagon are the same size as a standard Class III hitch (2"), and accept any accessory or towing insert that fits into a standard Class III hitch. We manufacture them this way to increase versatility. However, this hitch is NOT capable of standard Class III loading in terms of tongue weight or towing capacity.

Please read our article on towing before towing anything behind your Vanagon.
